Custom Foot Levelers Orthotics
How your feet hit the ground affects every step your knees take. Custom orthotics correct that foundation so your joints carry less strain.
Foot Levelers orthotics are custom-made supports built from a scan of your feet. They correct imbalances in your stance and stride that quietly overload your knees, hips, and back. We fit them as part of caring for the whole kinetic chain.
We start by scanning your feet to see how you stand and move. From that, your orthotics are made to support your unique structure. Worn in your everyday shoes, they help align your feet and legs so force is shared more evenly up the chain.
Poor foot mechanics send extra stress straight to the knees with every step. Correcting that foundation reduces the load and supports better movement everywhere above it. Dr. Sarah Scharf uses orthotics when the feet are part of why a joint keeps hurting.

Every step your knees take starts at the ground
Most people take several thousand steps a day, and every one of them sends force up through the same chain: foot, ankle, knee, hip, spine. Your feet are the input to that load equation. How they meet the ground determines how force is distributed through every joint above them — on every step, all day long.
Each foot is engineered around three arches — one along the inside, one along the outside, and one across the ball of the foot — working together like a dome. When any of them flattens with time, footwear, or fatigue, the structures above compensate: the shin rotates inward, the knee drifts out of line, and the hip and low back absorb twisting forces they were never designed to manage. The error is tiny on any single step. Multiplied across a day on your feet, a round of golf, or a hillside trail, it becomes a pattern of overload.
This is often why a knee improves in the clinic yet keeps flaring in daily life: the joint is being treated, but the input never changed. You cannot fully unload a joint while every step keeps reloading it the same way. Custom orthotics change the input itself.
Why three-arch support and a custom scan matter
Not all orthotics do the same job. The difference lies in what gets measured and what actually gets supported.
Most inserts address only one arch
Off-the-shelf insoles typically prop up the inner arch and ignore the other two. Foot Levelers orthotics support all three, stabilizing the whole dome of the foot rather than tilting it in a new direction.
The scan captures your structure
A digital scan records how you actually stand and bear weight — including the asymmetries almost everyone has between their two feet. Your orthotics are then built for your feet specifically, not for an average of everyone else's.
The correction works passively, all day
Because they live in your everyday shoes, the orthotics influence every step you take without any effort, reminders, or extra time on your part.
What changes above the foot
Correcting the foundation is really a knee, hip, and back intervention — delivered through the feet.
Steadier knee tracking
When the foot stops collapsing inward, the shin rotates less and the kneecap can track more cleanly in its groove. That can mean less shearing stress on exactly the structures your treatment is trying to calm.
A more level base for the hips and spine
Balanced feet help the pelvis sit level, which reduces the compensating torque the hips and low back absorb with each stride.
Protection for your other treatments
Decompression, laser, and shockwave work on the joint itself. Orthotics help keep thousands of daily steps from re-creating the very stress those therapies are resolving — which is why we treat the feet as part of the joint plan.
Find out what your feet are telling your knees
A quick in-office scan shows how your feet bear load and where the chain above them compensates. From there, we can tell you whether custom orthotics belong in your plan.

They help patients whose knee, hip, or back pain is linked to how their feet and legs align.
The scan is quick and easy. Once your orthotics arrive, you simply wear them in your regular shoes.
Most people wear them daily. We check the fit and make sure they are doing their job.
It can take a short adjustment period to get used to the new support, which is completely normal.
There is no downtime. Many patients notice less strain as their body adapts to better alignment.
